In it's 17th year, the WAMi Festival will deliver an electrifying five-day program complete with much-loved annual events such as the WAMi Awards Night and Saturday Spectacular plus new events, parties, exhibitions and awards programs to debut including:
  • The WA Indigenous Music Awards
    A brand new awards program that honours achievement by Indigenous Western Australian artists. 
  • WAMi Warm-ups
    The road to the WAMi Festival will be paved with golden gigs, featuring some of Western Australia's most popular acts. 
  • A number of partnered events will inspirit urban and regional spaces, including:
    a rock photography competition and exhibition, a classic 'one-take' recording studio project, and surprise gigs.

The 2009 WAMi Festival is busting out with the first in a series of warmup concerts.

Rock the night away at this two-in-one concert, with a standard show from 8pm, plus an "after midnight" late show.

Featuring some of WA's top acts, the standard show offers HARLEQUIN LEAGUE, STREETLIGHT, THE WORDS & HAYLEY BETH.

After midnight, we're gonna let it all rock out with THE FLOORS & PROJECT MAYHEM.

Get along to the coolest warmup gig in town, and your ticket will go into the draw to win a double pass to the WAMi Awards in May!

The 2009 WAMi Festival swings into warm up mode again, this time in conference format. Presented by Central TAFE Music Industry Training (CMIT), WAMi Warm Up #3 - Conference Style, takes place on Wednesday 25 March, from 4-5pm at Music Building, Central TAFE, Leederville Campus (Cnr Oxford & Richmond Sts).

Warm up for the WAMi Music Business Conference with this special event: "The Music Business Is Over! Or Is It?? What Is Next, and How Do We Transition Into a Digital Ecosystem?" Featuring Ted Cohen (USA), Managing Partner of TAG Strategic.

Ted Cohen is the Managing Partner of TAG Strategic, a digital entertainment advisory, where their clients have included Gibson, Verizon, Sandisk, Qualcomm, Gene audio, among others. Known throughout the technology and music industries as being "part ambassador and part evangelist," Cohen was instrumental in crafting the licensing agreements upon which the Rhapsody subscription service and the iTunes Music Store were built. A 30-year industry veteran, Cohen currently chairs MidemNet, an international music/technology conference convened in Cannes each year. Cohen also serves on the NARAS (Grammy) Los Angeles chapter Board of Governors, the Board of Directors for the Neil Bogart Memorial Fund, co-chairs the new media arm of the T.J. Martell Foundation, and lends his time and talents to music & technology education efforts such as the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY In The Schools Program.

Kiss My Camera

A Showcase of Western Australia’s Musical Moments

Music lovers, photographers and photomedia artists in Western Australia are invited to enter the inaugural Kiss My Camera showcase, which will be exhibited as part of the 2009 WAMi Festival.

Images of Western Australian musical moments are invited. The images can be from any year but must feature a Western Australian artist OR location. All images fitting this criteria will be considered including live music shots, portraits, press images, fan material and photomedia works.

Four prizes will be awarded:
  • Grand prize, 
  • Portrait prize,
  • Live Music prize, and
  • The foodchain prize for photographer under 25.

Bio


Sarah Norton
has been at WAM since 2005, where she started out managing the RAMMPAAGE program. Sarah was appointed as WAMi Festival Director in 2008 and in this role she manages the annual WAMi Festival including the WAMi Music Business Conference.

Sarah began her professional arts management career as a Regional Arts Development Officer and also worked at the WA Department of Culture and the Arts. She has also held a number of advisory roles such as Chairperson of the Southwest 2020 Committee and representative on the Propelarts Committee.

Hailing from Bunbury, Sarah has loved music forever and loves playing in bands. Sarah is a presenter on RTR FM’s WA music program “Homegrown” and is currently studying a Masters of Business Administration at Curtin Graduate Business School part-time.
